Hurry up....and Wait!

I think I've officially finished almost all of my "baby projects"!  It's been a fun distraction from watching the days tick by until he finally gets here.  The doctor seems to be surprised every time I come back for another appointment without a baby in tow.  He says I'm lined up perfectly for this little guy to come any time.  However, I also know that there's really no way he can know anything for sure, so I'm pacing myself to hang in there for the next week if I have to!  It's kind of a weird combination of being prepared to either have him in an hour....or another week.  I need to be ready in every way to be able to go to the hospital tonight, or mentally prepared to wait for another week or more and not be depressed and twiddeling my thumbs in the mean time.

So, here's a bit of what I've been up to to keep myself busy.  Before I was even pregnant, I decided that I'd love to have a "lil buckaroo" theme for a little boys nursery.  It's been fun trying to bring it all together and on very little budget.  I find it very satisfying to come up with solutions for decorating and organizing where I either repurpose something I already have, or spruce up something I am given, find, or buy for next to nothing.  Basically everything in the nursery decor fit into one of those categories.

Back in August when we were living with my parents, I got the grand idea to try and find some weathered wood around on the farm somewhere, and make my own frames.  I searched for some wood that had some character and found the perfect old pallet down at the orchard; then, with the help of my dad and his saw, we went to work.  I actually really liked the way they turned out.  AND the coolest part....3 good sized frames=FREE!

I showed a peek earlier of the quilt I had made for the crib.  I used that same fabric combination to do a pillow, crib skirt, window valance, and wall art to go in the smaller weathered wood frames.  I received both the crib and rocking chair as hand-me-downs from my older sisters!

My next fun little project was to do some wall art with a cowboy ABC.  I had a lot of fun coming up with the content and designs for these prints and was able to print them out on my printer at home and then used old frames that were sitting around not being used.  I also figured out a way to print the "lil buckaroo" sign I designed on my printer at home and piece it together to be a large print as well.  So once again, the coolest part about these projects...absolutely FREE!

Just a quick peek at part of the closet in the "baby room/office".  Because baby clothes are so little, when I hung up the first row of clothes I could see that there was A LOT of wasted space below it, and that just couldn't do.  So....I was determined to find a way to hang a second row of clothes below it.  Blair and I went to lowes and for like $8 bought some chain, hooks, and a wooden dowel.  We jimmy-rigged our own little second hanger rack thing :)  We just nailed the dowel to the chain and then with the hooks we hung the chain from the rod above!  When living in apartments you have to find ways of doing things that aren't "permanent" and this worked great.  (I have to admit that I find way too much satisfaction in figuring out stuff like that)

Sorry if I'm boring you by now, but here's one last project.  I have seen these cute little carseat covers at church and thought they looked easy enough to make.  So, I got online and looked at some and then set out to make my own.  It's basically just a blanket with straps sewn onto it to hold it up around the handle of the carseat.  I found some fabric on sale that I liked, and after a couple hours had created my very own car seat canopy.  Fun and super easy!

And finally, this is the bassinet (another wonderful hand-me-down) that is sitting by our bedside just waiting to be filled!!!

ONE MORE WEEK! (more or less)

Cute stuff! We are excited for you guys! I remember when I was pregnant I read SO much about the pregnancy and the labor...and now that I have my baby I wish I would have read more about parenting, like how to get babies to sleep! So if you need something to read while you wait I suggest a book like "On becoming Babywise" or something. Just a thought.

Cami, I confess that I didn't get Copyright permission, but I forwarded this post to our Relief Society counselor in charge of Midweek Relief Society meetings. She was ecstatic. Our next activity will be saving money by making your own candy. So, she would love to have you come and teach a mini-class about your decorating your nursery. Me too. I explained, however, that you live in Pasco, Washington! We love all three of you, and you're in our prayers also. Becky
