When Blair and I were first dating, I thought his taste for bluegrass music was cute....but NOT for me! I couldn't stand the whiny voices and twangy banjo's. I grew up liking country music, but bluegrass just seemed....well....out there!
However, it didn't take very many family and/or friend sing-alongs with guitars, banjos, and mandolins around the family room to be quickly converted! Some of my favorite memories of our dating months were the times we would get together with Blair's friends from Wyoming and they'd have bluegrass jams. He won me over with some of those songs :) Good memories!
Anyway...since we've moved to Washington (away from Blair's family and Wyoming Friends) I've actually really missed all things (well most things) bluegrass! So when a friend of ours heard about Blair's fondness for bluegrass, she told us about an upcoming concert in the Tri-Cities for a group called "The Lower Lights". They are a group of LDS artists doing a "hymn revival" tour and their music has a bluegrass-ish, folk-ish feel. And, as a sidenote, Blair also knows Sarah Sample...one of the main girls in the group! Anyway...long story short, we went last weekend, and LOVED it! Listen to a sample of their music here.
Going to that concert (whether or not they're really considered bluegrass) reminded me of the fact that I have actually acquired a taste for bluegrass (well most of it)!
Who knew!?!
