Luck is...

...when preparation meets opportunity! So I guess you can call us lucky!! Blair has definitely been super prepared and the Lord recently blessed us with an opportunity.

Blair got a phone call about a week and a half ago from the Pasco School District asking him to come and interview for a social studies opening in a day and a half. Considering that he had just been told he hadn't gotten the position he interviewed for at Chiawana High School, and he hadn't applied for any more openings, we were so surprised and excited! So...Blair then spent the next two days studying and preparing for his interview.

He went in last Wednesday morning, had his interview, and came home unsure about how confident he was in how it went. Later that afternoon, as we were driving on our way to my parents house, he got a phone call offering him the job (teaching High School Social Studies at Pasco High School). He pulled off the road to talk to them, and after he hung up we shared many tears of joy. I am so proud of Blair and all of his hard work. At times we both wondered if it was ever going to pay off, but we can both breathe a sigh of relief as we now see that it has (a year and a half, a lot of substituting, a lot of prayers, and probably 100 job applications later....that is!!) Looking back, we can truly see how the Lord's hand is guiding our lives!

Now, however, Blair has his work cut out for him. Preparing to teach high schoolers in less than a week is quite a daunting task...but we're so grateful for the challenge.

Hooray! I'm thinking we might be in the same predicament although we are hoping for a job right out of grad school at a HS next fall. I hope we get the same luck! I know what it is like waiting and praying, waiting and praying.

We are very, very happy for you both--what a huge relief--Blair will do great. There is nothing like the first year. Some quick advice for Blair (not that he needs it)

*Go home before dinner.
******Write tests that you don't have to spend time grading--seriously, who wants to read tests all the time? (have them grade their own or multiple choice)

*Make friends with a teacher who will help you with classroom management ideas and how you work with students.

*play games in class--either as a review or quiz, high-schoolers even like cheesy games.

*don't try and reinvent the wheel, borrow lessons and activities and tweak them to fit your teaching style. You'll have many years of teaching to create your own material, just not today. (Cami will thank you for spending more time with her than at your computer)

*Have a good attitude and smile--students like happy teachers.

Good luck!
