Oh what do you do in the summer time...

A few things we did to fill up some warm summer days this year:

Car wash day : one of Briggs favorite days.  But don't be fooled, we don't have them often enough.  The car is currently in an embarassingly dirty state.  Oh well, that's the hazards of living in the country...and we wouldn't have it any other way :)

Air show : we decided to try our luck at going down to the air show on the river this year.  We knew the pathways along the river would get us really close to where the airshow was, so we decided to see how close we could get before they made us pay a) because we're cheap and b) because we hear the paid areas are filled with half dressed and drunk people anyway...so we figured it was a win-win!  And turns out...it was.  Well actually, probably more of a win-lose....which I will quickly explain.

Win - We could see the show great from where we were and it was free entertainment.  We packed a picnic, set up our chairs along the bike path, and soaked up some sun while we watched some pretty amazing air-show action.  It was a lovely afternoon....well mostly.

Lose - Briggs did really great the whole time until the very last part of the show where we learned that Briggs and F-16 fighter jets (which make an unearthly-bone tingling-feel it through your whole body-scared the heck out of me the first time-sound) do NOT mix!!  The first time the jet came right past us (and I mean RIGHT past us) on the river, Briggs was a few feet away playing and when that sound plowed us over I KNEW he was going to be HORRIFIED.....and he was!  I've never seen such a look of terror on his face.  I spent the duration of the show trying to hold Briggs and cover his ears while he screamed in terror as the jet proceeded to do 20 minutes of tricks along the river.  It was a learning experience to say the least :)

Playing at the park : The older Briggs gets, the more he loves the slide.  I think these pictures illustrate that perfectly :)

Our church callings : we stayed busy with our callings this summer.  I was called as the ward trek specialist, which meant I got to help our ward's youth get ready for the stake trek.  It turned out to be a pretty busy calling, but it was a neat thing to be a part of (except that I didn't actually get to go...which was sorta bitter sweet).  And Blair was in the Young Men's so he got to go on quite a few camping/fishing/hiking expeditions...which he loved.  The picture above is of my nephew Quentin (who was in Blair's teachers quorom) and it makes me laugh because he looks like he's about ready to get pulled over by that ginormous pole (used for fishing for sturgeon I think).

Anyway, Blair's back to school now so it's back to our normal life schedule.  But summer was fun while it lasted and we already miss having Blair around during the day!
